Earning my bachelor’s in psychology and master’s in rehabilitation counseling at the University of North Texas was a once-impossible dream that my own therapy enabled me to achieve. As a student, I presented my own research at a national conference and studied cross-cultural psychology abroad in Taiwan and China.
While I describe myself as a complete psychology theory nerd, my approach to therapy is ironically very simple:
Through the relationship my clients and I forge together, we explore, decipher, and experiment to develop insight and to live in new ways. Using this interpersonal process as a base while also borrowing from other theories and modalities, we will lay out real tasks in each session to bring you progressively closer to your goals.
I have extensive experience working with individuals with dual diagnoses (i.e., co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders) across all levels of care and in individual, group, and family formats. I also have specialized experience working with professionals, including CEOs, physicians, and attorneys. For individuals seeking treatment for symptoms of post-traumatic stress, I offer Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), a structured and empirically supported treatment with proven efficacy for veterans, first responders, and civilians alike.
My path into the field of psychotherapy was twofold. First, both of my parents were licensed therapists. Maybe it’s genetic, or maybe we share an interest in human behavior, or maybe we are all just a little too nosy. The second factor that led me here was my personal experience with therapy in early adulthood. By the time I had reached my therapeutic goals, I realized that accompanying others through their own healing and development would become a driving force in my life.
In fact, earning my bachelor’s in psychology and master’s in rehabilitation counseling at the University of North Texas was a once-impossible dream that my own therapy enabled me to achieve. As a student, I presented my own research at a national conference and studied cross-cultural psychology abroad in Taiwan and China.
My wife and I, who have been friends for over twenty years, married in 2014. Attentive readers, feel free to psychoanalyze me when I tell you my wife is also a therapist. We share our home with Rosemary, a buff-colored tabby cat with a gritty attitude. Although our friends and family find her to be an acquired taste, we love her dearly. Outside of the office, you can find me training for endurance cycling and running, playing clumsy chord melodies on guitar, repeatedly breaking and fixing computers, or sewing handmade goods.
I look forward to meeting you.
