Vervewell’s very own Jason Leito, LPC is our highlighted email contributor this week, as he shines a light on gratitude and its simplicity. Yes, its simplicity.
Happy Holidays,
from our Vervewell Counseling family to yours…
As Thanksgiving week kicks off, I want to share something simple that might help.
Thanksgiving has always been about pausing to notice what matters, but that doesn’t mean it has to feel forced or complicated.
When possible, pause for a moment and notice something you genuinely appreciate. It doesn’t have to be big or profound. Sometimes it’s just the first quiet moment of your day, a breath you actually feel, a brief exchange that caught you off guard, or the simple fact that you made it through a tough week.
The holidays can make us feel like we need to perform gratitude in a certain way. But real gratitude is usually quieter than that. It’s personal, not performative. It doesn’t need to look like what everyone else is posting or expressing. It’s something you feel more than something you announce, and honestly, it can be subtle or even mixed up with other feelings. You can be grateful and exhausted at the same time. You can appreciate parts of your life while other parts feel messy.
Gratitude doesn’t require everything to be perfect. It just asks you to pay attention.
If this week feels overwhelming or complicated, you’re not alone. Even a few seconds of real awareness can help your body settle and bring you back to the present, back to gratitude. It’s a small thing,
but it often shifts the whole tone of your day.
Thank you for trusting us with your care. I hope this week brings you some peace, steadiness, and clarity. The Vervewell Counseling staff is seeing clients on a limited basis this Thanksgiving week, so that we can enjoy our families, some time off, and express our own gratitude.
However, do not hesitate to reach out to your therapist to add an extra session.
The holidays and self-care are an excellent combo…and we are here for it.
Warmly,
Jason Leito, LPC
